Collagen and skin protection from Superfoods?

Article posted by Riccardo Frati / 20 September 2016

Autumn is nearly here and it’s never been a better time to up the ante on your skincare with the change of the seasons and the effect this has on your skin. Superfoods are a great way to boost your complexion which can also compliment any facial surgery enhancements that you may be considering too. Superfoods provide you with a range of vitamins and antioxidants to help your skin cells renew and repair, giving you a smooth, youthful looking complexion. Let’s take a look at the four superfoods you should be introducing into your diet this summer.

Blueberries:

The US Department of Agriculture compared blueberries to 40 other fruits and vegetables and found it to be the best in terms of antioxidants. It’s these antioxidants which help to combat premature ageing. Blueberries also contain vitamin C. This helps your body to produce more collagen, so wrinkles and fine lines appear smoother.

Tomatoes:

They taste great in a salad or on their own as a healthy snack but did you know that tomatoes can also help to protect your skin? This is due to them containing something known as phytochemical lycopene, which helps to prevent skin from becoming damaged from UV radiation.

Spinach:

Spinach is a tasty vegetable which can be enjoyed hot or cold. Why not replace the lettuce in your salad with a handful of spinach leaves? You’ll reap the anti-ageing benefits if you do because spinach contains vitamin C, vitamin E and beta-carotene, which work together to fight against wrinkles and protect your skin from damage.

Salmon:

You’ll often hear people tell you that oily fish is good for you because it makes you more intelligent. Well that’s not all it’s good for as the high fat content of salmon helps your skin to retain its elasticity, keeping you looking younger for longer. It also contains a compound known as DMAE (2 dimethylaminoethanol) which is great for improving muscle tone and helps to prevent sagging skin.
